Toni 2 IQ Classifications

The TONI-2 Intelligence Test (Test of Nonverbal Intelligence) is a nonverbal intelligence test used to asses the IQ of nonspeaking children and adults ages 5 to 85. It uses pictures, patterns and geometry to test deductive and analytical reasoning skills. The examiner does not speak during the test, instead gesturing and pointing to administer the questions. Two composite scores and a nonverbal IQ score are given at the test's end, in both standard and percentile rankings.
  1. Extremely Low/Borderline

    • Scores of 79 and below are considered to be extremely low intelligence scores. Intelligence test scores below 70 classify a person as mentally retarded, ranging from mild to profound.

People who score in this range on the TONI-2 intelligence test usually need outside support both academically and socially, although about 85 percent of people in this range can live semi-independently, holding unskilled jobs and living with assistance.

    Average

    • Average intelligence scores range from 80 to 119. Eighty-two percent of the people who take the TONI-2 test fall in this range of scoring. Average intelligence scores constitute a general understanding of basic concepts (arithmetic, spelling and grammar, English and comprehension) and the ability to live independently, both academically and socially.

    Superior

    • Superior intelligence scores on the TONI-2 fall in the range of 120 and above. People scoring in this range are considered to have above average intelligence and excellent academic and social functioning. Children who score in this range on the TONI-2 may be classified as "gifted."
