TAKS Pep Rally Decorating Ideas

Schools in the Lone Star State use TAKS (Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skill) to assess student learning. To motivate students to do their best on the test, some school districts hold academic pep rallies that can be decorated with motivational posters and colorful artwork in the school's colors. Organizers can also choose a theme for decorations, and have students make some of them.
  1. Motivational Posters

    • Motivational posters usually contain an image and a short saying. They accomplish two different purposes: adding visual interest to walls and providing inspiration. Organizers can purchase motivational posters from a number of online companies, such as Teacher Storehouse, or volunteers can make original posters.

    School Colors

    • Use crepe paper streamers and balloons in the school's colors. Streamers and balloons can be used to adorn a podium or stage. Twisting various colored streamers together will form a crepe paper chain that can be used on bleachers or tables.

    Theme Decor

    • If organizers choose a particular theme for the TAKS pep rally, students can be asked to dress to fit the theme. For example, students can wear tropical prints for a beach-themed rally, which can include palm tree cutouts, hanging beach balls, bamboo torches, and tropical plants. Leis can be distributed to students as they enter the pep rally.

    Outdoor Displays

    • If the TAKS pep rally is held outdoors, motivational field displays can be installed. Outdoor field displays can be made of large sheets of foam board and should reflect the rally's theme. Run-through signs, like those used at sporting events, can also be used for inspiration; students can run through the signs in groups arranged by homeroom or class.

    School-wide

    • Most decorations will be installed at the site of the pep rally, but that doesn't mean other areas of the school should be neglected. Organizers can make posters to remind students of the time and place of the TAKS pep rally that can be placed near heavily trafficked areas such as water fountains, bathrooms, cafeteria, band hall, and gymnasium. Individual classrooms doors can also be decorated, as well as the school office and lobby.
