LEED AP Sample Questions

The LEED AP exam is designed to gauge a person's knowledge of green building practices and expertise of the U.S. Green Building Council's rating systems. The exam is divided into two parts. One is the LEED Green Associate examination, which tests familiarity of green building training. The other is a specialty exam based on one of five LEED Reference Guides such as LEED AP Homes. Examinees have two hours to complete 100 test questions in each section. The minimum passing score is 170 out of 200. Following are some sample questions.
  1. Green Building Components

    • Which of the listed green building components would help the design team of a 28,000-square-foot public school attain a 6.2 SS credit rating in Stormwater Design for Quality Control in the LEED-NC Rating System: build a wetland; a solar hot water system; construct a vegetated roof; build an infiltration basin; or erect a high-albedo concrete structure?

    LEED Reference Guide

    • The LEED Reference Guide lists sustainability guidelines. Which of the following is not listed in the Reference Guide: GSA guidelines, toxic materials list for the EPA, AIA sustainability guidelines or environmental building information?

    Project Team Certification

    • Which of the following does a project team need to do to acquire LEED certification: assemble documents for each of the prerequisites; register the team with the USGBC, collect records for credit intents; or gather documents?

    Volatile Organic Compound

    • Building and household finishing products emit chemical vapors into the air. Does brick, carpet, vinyl or paint give off the lowest Volatile Organic Compound vapors?
