Make sure your child completes her homework assignments. The content of the CRT corresponds with what is taught in the classroom. The test covers the fundamentals that every child should know. So review and check all her homework assignments.
Create a daily reading schedule. For example, set aside a 1 to 2 hours a day for reading books. Ask your child's teacher for a suggested reading list. After each reading session ask your son questions about what he read. This helps improves his reading skills and comprehension.
Review the CRT instruction manuals with your child. The Nevada Department of Education, or NDE, has a list of manuals for each grade level and subject on its website. Have your child complete the sample test included in the manuals. The manual gives your child a good idea of what to expect when she takes the actual test.
Utilize a tutor. If your child is struggling with a particular subject then enlist the help of a tutor. Contact your child's school, the local PTA or ask other parents for referrals regarding tutorial services. Also consider asking a fellow student who has already taken and passed the CRT if she's willing to tutor your child.
Enroll your child in a CRT prep program. These programs teach a wide range of test-taking strategies, such as knowing when to guess at questions and scanning reading passages before answering questions.
