The NCTE has four goals:
* To improve the teaching and learning of English language arts.
* To promote lifelong literacy.
* To support the professional growth of English language arts teachers.
* To advocate for policies that support literacy education.
To achieve these goals, the NCTE offers a variety of resources and programs, including:
* Professional development opportunities, such as conferences, workshops, and online courses.
* Publications, such as journals, books, and lesson plans.
* Research, such as studies on literacy education and the teaching of English language arts.
* Advocacy, such as lobbying for policies that support literacy education and working to create a more inclusive and just society for all students.
The NCTE is a professional organization with over 125,000 members. It is the largest organization of English language arts teachers in the world.
