How did the grapfruit get its name?

The grapefruit got its name due to the way it grows on the tree. Grapefruits grow in clusters that resemble bunches of grapes, hence the name grapefruit. The earliest use of the term "grapefruit" can be traced back to a 1750 publication written by Rev. Griffith Hughes when describing some Jamaican plants.
