What is the passing criteria in net exam either percentage or merit list?

In the National Eligibility Test (NET), also known as the UGC NET exam, the passing criteria varies for General and OBC category candidates and for candidates belonging to the SC, ST, PwD, Third Gender category. The passing criteria is determined based on either meeting a minimum percentage requirement or securing a position within a designated merit list or both. Here's the detailed passing criteria for the NET exam:

1. General and OBC Category Candidates:

- Percentage Criteria: General and OBC Category candidates must secure a minimum of 60% marks (55% marks for OBC - Non-Creamy layer candidates) out of the total marks (100) in the NET exam to pass.

- Merit List Criteria: Additionally, these candidates must fall within the top 15% of the General/OBC category merit list prepared based on their performance in the NET exam. This merit list is determined by their rank among all successful candidates within the category.

2. SC, ST, PwD, Third Gender Category Candidates:

- Percentage Criteria: SC, ST, PwD, and Third Gender category candidates are also required to secure a minimum of 60% marks (55% marks for ST category candidates) to pass the NET exam.

- Relaxation: However, these candidates are exempted from the merit list criteria mentioned above for General and OBC category candidates. This means that if they meet the minimum percentage requirement of 60% (or 55% for ST), they will be considered qualified in the NET exam regardless of their position in the merit list.

Therefore, candidates must fulfill both the minimum percentage requirement and, in the case of General and OBC category candidates, secure a rank within the top 15% of the merit list to pass the NET exam. SC, ST, PwD, and Third Gender category candidates need to only meet the specified percentage criteria.
