When did A level examinations begin?

A-level examinations began in 1951.

Prior to this, the General Certificate of Education (GCE) was introduced in 1917, but it was initially offered at two levels: Ordinary level (O-level) and Advanced level (A-level).

It was in 1951 that A-levels were formally established as a separate qualification, with their own set of exams and curriculum.
