Organizations to Help People Learn to Read

Reading is an essential life skill. However, Read-Faster.com states that "44 million adults in the U.S. can't read well enough to read a simple story to a child." Literacy problem are not just an American issue but also are an international concern. Organizations around the world are committed to promoting literacy in children and adults to help improve the global job market and economy.
  1. Learn to Read Inc.

    • Learn to Read Inc. is a nonprofit organization in Jacksonville, Florida. This adult literacy program has encouraged reading skills since 1969. The organization relies on volunteers and community grant funding to operate. Learn to Read is accredited by ProLiteracy America. The organization offers free tutoring to more than 500 students every year, according to its website. Learn to Read is located in Duval County, where one in five residents reads before a sixth grade level. Community members and people around the country are encouraged to support literacy by donating money or time to this organization.
