Why Curly like Lennie in the book mice and men?

In John Steinbeck's novel "Of Mice and Men," there is no indication that Curly likes Lennie. In fact, quite the opposite is true. Curly is often hostile towards Lennie, picking on him for being slow-witted, making fun of his large hands, and generally treating him with contempt.
