How did the town of grambling get its name?

Grambling is named for the Grambling family. The first members of the Grambling family came from South Carolina in the early 1800s. They were among the first white settlers in the area. The Gramblings were prosperous farmers and landowners, and they soon became prominent citizens in the community. In 1854, the town was officially named Grambling in their honor.
