Tennessee Daycare Requirements

Each state has its own requirements that govern over daycare facilities. In Tennessee, the Adult and Family Services Division of the Department of Human Services sets and monitors the minimum regulations for daycare facilities.
  1. Obtaining A License

    • The Tennessee Department of Human Services requires that anyone who wishes to apply for a daycare license must attend a training session. The Department also charges an application fee.

    Written Purpose Statement

    • It is required by all daycare facilities to provide the Department of Human Services with a written statement of purpose. The statement should include a description of services, ages of children accepted and hours of operation.

    Insurance Coverage

    • The state of Tennessee requires that all daycare facilities carry general liability insurance, medical payment insurance and auto insurance if necessary.

    Record Keeping

    • Each child that is enrolled in the daycare should have a file containing contact information, up-to-date immunization record and parental consent for emergency care.

    Supervision

    • According to licensing regulations, employees must abide by the currently acceptable adult-to-child ration at all times.
