Follow the Leader: Have everyone sit down in a big circle. Do simple arm movements, head nods, claps, funny faces and shoulder movements and let them follow you. Allow each child to have a turn to try a few moves and get all the way around the circle. Of course, this is also a good game to do standing up.
Sound Off: Make a noise of any animal and have your young students guess what kind of animal it was. Once again, have the students take turns. You can have them try to act out their animal in their spots if you want.
Ball Game: This might be better if you are able to break into smaller groups. Have everyone sit in a circle and roll a ball. Have the students say the name of a color, animal, fruit, etc. every time they get the ball. Add a few more balls to add interest to the game.
Scavenger Hunt: Draw pictures of various common objects around your day care, classroom or home and show them to the kids. Have them hunt for the real object and bring it to you or point to it. It might be helpful to break them up into smaller groups with each group hunting a different thing to avoid crowding and fights.
Junk Play: Grab a few large cardboard boxes and fill them with stuffed animals, dress-up outfits, building blocks, wooden spoons and whatever else is safe for youngsters. Let them explore and make the most of all this "junk."
Creative Movement: Play some music and have your students dance to it. Try slow music, fast music, classical, rock and other varieties. Have them try to find the beat to the music and jump in time to it.
