Healthy Snacks for Day Care Kids

Children receive a good portion of their daily caloric intake from snacks. It's important that these calories come from healthy snacks instead of empty calories from sugar and soft drinks. You may find it a challenge to get your children to eat foods that are good for them. Healthy snacks do not have to taste bad. There are many healthy snacks that you can prepare that your children may eat.
  1. Banana Pops

    • Serve frozen bananas instead of ice cream. The bananas are a healthier alternative to traditional ice cream. Take three bananas and cut them in half. Insert a Popsicle stick into each half and spread peanut butter on them. You can choose from many different toppings, just make them healthy topping, such as peanuts or granola. After you spread the peanut butter, roll the bananas in the chosen topping and then wrap the bananas in wax paper and freeze them for at least three hours.

    Bread Sticks

    • Prepare refrigerated bread sticks or frozen bread sticks. Serve the bread sticks with a small amount of spaghetti or pasta sauce for dipping. You can also use shredded cheese on top of the bread sticks while they are cooking. The bread sticks are the perfect size for little children to handle.

    Smoothies

    • Choose your favorite fruits to blend to make a healthy drink. Mix together a pint of yogurt with your desired fruit and a few cups of ice. Blend everything together until it is smooth. Add a straw or even a tiny umbrella. The children will love the little touches. You can leave off the yogurt and just mix the fruit with the ice. Substitute natural fruit juices for the liquid. Allow the kids to choose what blends they want to try.

    Cheese

    • Offer the children a wide selection of cheese cubes as a snack. You can add small pieces of cut fruit or melt the cheese in the microwave and serve with fresh vegetables. The little pieces will be perfect for the children to carry around as a finger food without the need for a napkin or plate.

    Safety KaBobs

    • Push little pieces of fruit onto Popsicle sticks. Everything seems to taste better on a stick. Push the different types of fruit on to the stick and allow the children to eat them off the Popsicle sticks. This is a better alternative to skewers that can poke and hurt the children.
