This activity requires a bandanna, scissors, beads and fabric paint. Students fold the bandanna diagonally until the bandanna is in one long strip, about two inches wide. Then, they cut strips approximately one to two inches long on the two outside edges of the bandanna and slide as many beads as they want on each strip of fabric. Next, they tie a knot at the end of each strip to hold the beads in place. Finally, they use the fabric paint to decorate the bandanna in any way they'd like.
This activity requires craft foam, craft thread, pony beads, a quarter-inch circle hand punch, scissors and glue. From the craft foam, cut a rectangular shape about 2 1/2 inches long and one half-inch wide, or the width of the top of the student's wrist, and make the ends rounded. Next, punch a small hole at either end of the bracelet shape. Take the craft thread and wrap it tightly around the bracelet, using any combination of colors. Glue the ends of the thread to the underside of the bracelet. To finish, cut a 16-inch piece from each of the craft thread colors. Thread the 16-inch pieces through one pony bead and attach the thread to the hole cut in the bracelet. Do this for both holes. Finally, braid the threads together and tie a knot at the end.
For a less complicated art activity, print multiple copies of these two maps from Jamaicans.com:
"Map of Jamaica": http://www.jamaicans.com/info/maps/b_w_map.gif
"Map of Jamaica and the Caribbean": http://www.jamaicans.com/info/maps/b_w_carib.gif.
Have the preschoolers color the maps. This activity can be made more involved by requiring the students to color the maps a certain way, with the water around the islands blue and each island a different color.
