Winnie the Pooh Bear Games for Preschool

Winnie the Pooh is a favorite among young children. This popular bear is featured in books, movies, toys, house decorations and much more. Games about Winnie the Pooh help preschoolers learn skills that help them upon entering school.

Large motor skills are used in active games, while small motor skills are needed for handling smaller objects and holding crayons or pencils. Cooperation, comprehension and other skills can be developed while preschoolers participate in fun games.
  1. Blustery Day Hunny Pot Race

    • Winnie the Pooh tried to keep his hunny pot filled with his favorite treat.

Windy days are called "blustery days" in Winnie the Pooh stories. Pooh Bear often had to hold onto his hunny pot to keep the wind from blowing it away. Each preschooler should color a plain plastic cup gold or yellow for honey. Have the children get on their knees along a starting line. Each preschooler will place her "hunny pot" cup on the floor. Have kids blow on the honey pots until theirs reaches the finish line.

Don't Get Stung - Bee Game

    • Children pass paper bees quickly to keep from getting stung.

Bees love honey just as Winnie the Pooh does. Make a bee baton by gluing two paper or craft bees close to each end of a paper towel tube. The tube may contain as many bees as fits, if desired. To play the game, have preschoolers sit in a circle. Pass the bee baton around the circle while Winnie the Pooh music plays. Stop the music suddenly. The child holding the baton has been stung and must leave the game. (Leaving the game is optional, as some preschoolers will become upset.)

The children may also make a bee baton of their own to play this game at home.

    Ring Around the Hunny Game

    • Play this game with the entire group of preschoolers, or divide the group into two or more smaller groups. The children will stand in a circle, holding hands. In the center of the circle, place a picture of Winnie the Pooh and his hunny pot, or a plastic cup with one or more craft bees inside. Have the kids play a "Ring Around the Rosey" type game. Use this chant or a similar one:

      Ring around the hunny,

      Bees don't think we're funny.

      Buzzy, buzzy,

We all got stung. (Kids fall down)

Pin the Ears on Pooh Bear

    • Fasten a large picture of Winnie the Pooh onto a wall at eye level for the preschoolers.

Cut out bear ear shapes, two per child. Place a loop of tape on the back of each ear.

Have the children close their eyes (some will allow a blindfold, some will not), and try to tape both of Winnie's ears in the correct spots. Leave all the ears up, if desired.

    File Folder Games

    • Make several different file folder games, such as two each of different colors of Pooh Bears to match, different sizes and colors of bears to sort, laminated tracing pictures or connect-the-dots to complete and wipe off, or other games preschoolers can play alone or with a partner. Place each game inside a file folder and glue a Winnie the Pooh picture on the front of each folder.
