Assign a letter to each day of preschool and create an educational theme around that letter using the stenciled letter to reinforce the theme. For example, start with Monday as letter "A" day and create activities that all start with the letter "A." Teach the children about apples, animals, art or any subject that starts with "A." Tuesday would be letter "B" day and teach the children about bears, boats, bananas or any subject that starts with "B." Continue throughout the alphabet and then repeat using new activities for each letter.
Use the stencils to reinforce hard and soft letter sounds by creating a collage of letters that make hard sounds and a collage of letters that make soft sounds. During group time, ask the children to identify the sounds and if they answer correctly, let the children color in the letters. Use over-sized construction paper so the children can easily see the collages and post them for display in the classroom.
Have plenty of pre-cut letters available for the children and ask them to find the letters that are at the beginning of their friends' names. Each child can collect letters and share with the class which person's name starts with that letter. You can also extend this activity and ask the children to choose letters that are at the beginning of their family member's names.
Alphabet stencils are great for creating letter animals. Stencil each letter onto construction paper and hand them out to the students. Ask them if they know an animal that begins with their letter and to make the letter look like that animal. This will be easy for some letters --- as making the letter "S" look like a snake is easy --- but may be difficult for other letters, so have some samples available to encourage the children's creativity.
