Look for opportunities each day to use new words. In a voluntary pre-kindergarten classroom, the teacher will introduce new words and concepts each day. Try to use these words in play, when talking to the teacher, and at home.
Communicate in English with the teacher and with other students daily. Ask questions, name objects, exchange greetings and share stories.
Use free time to role-play or act out situations such as asking for an item at the grocery store, or placing orders at a restaurant. Using everyday English in true-life situations makes the words memorable.
Sing songs, recite chants and practice nursery rhymes to help you learn days of the week, months, numbers and simple commands.
Participate in daily activities in the classroom, using English as much as possible. Play games, create art, and play with toys. Find out the English vocabulary necessary for communicating what you are doing.
Label your art with English words. Ask a teacher to help with spelling.
