Get some English instruction books from the library. Look specifically for books that give detailed lessons on English concepts and that are easy for you to understand. While at the library, ask the librarian what books he would recommend for people who want to improve their English language skills for academic or work purposes.
Get a pocket dictionary. Look up the meanings of specific words that you're interested in and write them down. Memorize these words by using them in sentences or writing a humorous story that includes these words. Also use some of these words when holding conversations with loved ones or writing professional letters.
Watch educational TV programs. If your local public access stations have weekly programs that teach viewers how to sharpen their English language skills, watch these programs and take notes from the host that you feel are important to know. Also order specific episodes from the TV series if you need more help with certain concepts such as sentence structure and lessons on homonyms and antonyms.
Meet with an English tutor. Tell her what areas of English you're struggling with and ask how you can improve in those areas. If the tutor has a few instructional books on hand, ask if you can make copies of certain chapters that relate to the topics you're trying to improve in. Also take notes during your session so that you can review them for later study.
