Sprout is a website for preschoolers designed and run by PBS -- an award-winning provider of children's television programs, and Sesame Workshop, which is the nonprofit educational organization that created "Sesame Street." The site features educational games, videos, music, arts and crafts, healthy recipes and a section just for parents. All of the programs, games and activities are designed for children ages 2 through 5. At a section called "My Sprout" your child can register for free and save favorite activities, videos and games.
Starfall started in 2002 as a free phonics-based website for preschoolers, and quickly grew into a favorite with teachers and parents. The company began publishing its own printed curriculum in 2009. Starfall focuses exclusively on reading and language skills, but the interactive games are so interesting that preschoolers might not even realize they are learning. The ABCs section of the free site, which includes songs, games and even sign language demonstrations for each letter, is also available as an application for your iPod or iPhone.
Funschool is a branch of Kaboose, which is a preschool-centered website that is part of the Disney family websites. Funschool features color-matching and number-matching games, online coloring pages, activities that teach about animals and several phonics games. An area for parents and teachers has suggested uses and extension activities, as well as recipes, craft project ideas and printable coloring pages.
Funbrain is a part of the Family Education Network. This website, which began in 1997, is one of the most established educational websites on the Internet. The site has games for children from preschool through eighth grade that are organized by subject. Most are math or reading games. The site also offers online books and comics, including Jeff Kinney's "Diary of a Wimpy Kid," which became a bestselling print series and a movie. The kindergarten learning games are designed for children ages 6 and younger. There is also a section devoted to preschoolers called "The Playground" that's designed for preschoolers and their parents to use together.
