Preschool teachers usually have an abundance of ideas, but a lack of funding to execute their ideas. Pool your resources with other families to give the teacher a gift certificate to an educational supply store, or buy some materials you know the teacher has been wanting. A basket full of art supplies, picture books or science materials lets the teacher know you appreciate and support her efforts.
Preschool teachers appreciate small, personal gifts, such as scented candles, gift cards to restaurants or coffee shops, beautiful holiday ornaments or stationary. Handmade gifts, such as tea towels, baked bread or a photo frame show the teacher you care and have thought of her. Try a themed gift, such as a movie-themed basket with a gift card to a video rental store, popcorn and candy.
Teachers love gifts that commemorate the school year. Give the teacher a framed photo of the class or even your child, posing with the teacher. Ask your child to tell you his favorite memories from the year and write them down in an attractive card. Help your child draw a picture of the teacher on the cover. Enlist other parents to develop a scrapbook that includes photos and memorabilia of your time spent together.
If you know the teacher well, invite her to lunch at a restaurant or dinner at your house. Most teachers are touched and honored by this gracious gesture. If the teacher is busy, as most teachers are at the end of the school year, pack a lunch in an attractive picnic basket and bring lunch to her during the school day.
