Preschool classrooms typically have one or more bulletin boards. Adorn the boards with the children's artwork or dress up each board with a different theme that resembles times and seasons or concepts, depending on the time of year. An alphabet board works well for preschool students who are just beginning to learn their ABCs. Decorate the board with the entire alphabet and place pictures of animals or objects next to each letter. For instance, you can place a cat next to the letter "C" and an elephant next to the letter "E." Decorate a fall bulletin board with real leaves and sticks along with turkey drawings that the kids made.
Create a crafting area just for your preschool students. This area can include a large crafting table that is separate from the desks, along with painting stations and bookshelves filled with crafting supplies. Make the crafting area into a special nook, so that the kids can easily distinguish between the academic area and crafting station. You can create a small crafting area or expand this area across half the classroom, depending on how much crafting you do.
Entertain your preschool students by having a class pet. You can choose a real pet or designate a stuffed kitten, puppy or monkey as the class animal. The kids can take turns holding the pet or putting clothing on it. However, make sure there are certain rules if you decide to have a real pet like a rabbit or hamster. Of course the kids can't dress up a real pet, but you can allow the children to hold the pet at certain times during the day as long as they wash their hands afterward.
Choose another corner of the classroom for a story area. Place a large plush rug on the floor along with a chair for an adult and small bean bag chairs for the kids. You can also place miniature couches in this area as well. Decorate the walls with framed pictures of the children's favorite book covers, like "Curious George."
