Keep a supply of arts and craft materials in your classroom. Important materials include construction paper, paint, stamps, stamp pads, tape, glue, stencils, writing paper, clay and dough. Writing utensils like markers, crayons, pens, pencils and paint brushes should be included in your room as well. These items promote creativity in early childhood students and assist them in completing their daily work.
Add the appropriate classroom furniture to your room. This includes chairs, tables, desks, storage containers, sinks, social seating, sand or water tables and lofts. These items keep students comfortable in the school setting. Provide your students with furniture for both learning and pleasure. Additionally, classroom furniture can keep the teacher organized.
Provide your students with the appropriate supplies for play time in the classroom. Have materials for dramatic play like a small stage, puppet curtain with puppets, kitchen and accessories and dress-up accessories. Active play items like balls, play mats and cars should also be available for student use. Outdoor play materials should be available as well. This includes playground equipment, jump ropes and tricycles. Give your students a wide variety of play items to learn through exploration, social skills and movement.
Obtain the appropriate age level curriculum tools for teaching. Have the necessary books and teaching supplies for any subjects that you teach including foreign language, art, English, math, reading, science, math and social studies. Curriculum materials for students come in the form of textbooks, novels, picture books, workbooks and worksheets. Teachers should have a teacher's version of the textbook, answer sheets to student work, project examples, overheads and posters.
