Types of Learning for Preschool

According to the Parents website, preschool is an important part of a young child's educational development. Preschool prepares a child for kindergarten and grade school. Most children gain a sense of independence and begin to learn basic academic lessons. The age range can vary for preschoolers depending on the school. However, by the end of preschool there are a series of skills that the child should have learned.
  1. Social Interaction

    • The Preschool Express website explains that one of the most important aspects of preschool is the social interaction among the children. It is important for young children to develop a level of confidence and independence away from their parents and siblings. Children learn to communicate effectively in addition to working on skills such as sharing, listening and following instructions. The Parents website indicates that preschoolers learn about emotions and how to deal with frustrations, sadness and happiness while interacting with their peers.

    Beginner Curriculums

    • The Kids Front website claims that children in preschool begin learning the alphabet, colors, shapes and numbers. Once the children learn some of the basic skills, they are ready to learn how to write and spell words, particularly the child's name. They are also ready to learn their address and telephone number. The goal of preschool is to develop a solid foundation that will be needed for starting kindergarten. Preschool focuses on coordination skills, the beginning stages of reading, basic writing and following instructions.

    Artist Exploration

    • Preschoolers should learn coordination skills, according to the Preschool Express website. Preschoolers should learn to use scissors to cut in straight lines and circles in addition to scissor safety. Coloring with crayons teaches children how to focus and be creative. Skills learned in preschool will be expanded upon in kindergarten.

    Responsibilities

    • Preschoolers learn how to more independent and responsible for certain tasks at school and home. The Parents website claims that preschoolers should complete potty training. Also, they should learn how to dress themselves, help with fixing snacks or basic meals, help make their beds and learn how to clean up after themselves. Parents and teachers should introduce new experiences and responsibilities to increase the child's skills and abilities. Children learn to work independently as well as in groups to accomplish certain tasks and help other people.
