Select the paper and colored marker, crayon or pencil for writing your letter. Choose an envelope in which the paper will fit.
Write the date on the top right center side of the paper. This will show the person receiving the letter when it was written.
Write the greeting on the far left side under the date, after skipping down a line. Begin with the word "Dear" capitalized and followed by the person's name with a comma, unless you're writing to a family member, in which case use the family member's name and relationship -- uncle, aunt, cousin, for example.
Write the message or body section on the far left side under the greeting, after skipping down a line. Write one or more sentences about interesting things in your life, such as your favorite part of school, sport or activity.
Write the closing on the far left side under the message, after skipping down a line. Begin with the word "love" or "sincerely" capitalized and followed by a comma.
Write your signature on the far left side under the closing, after skipping down a line. This can be written with only your first name.
Place the paper folded inside the envelope.
Write your address on the top left hand side of the envelope. This shows your return address to the recipient.
Write the address of the friend or family member on the center area of the envelope. This will help the postal delivery service know where to send the letter.
Place the correct postage stamp on the top far right hand corner of the envelope.
Seal the back of the envelope and drop the letter at the post office or in a mail box.
