Address your students in the letter's greeting. Customize your letters by writing each preschooler's name in the greeting of the individual letter, such as "Dear Andy" or "Welcome Olivia." Or address your letter to the whole class with a general greeting, such as "Welcome preschool students" or "Greetings to my busy bees." Insert a comma after the greeting.
Introduce yourself to your preschool students in the first paragraph of the letter. Include your name and other information about you, such as details about your pets, your children or your hobbies. For example, "My name is Mrs. Campbell. I have two kids and a dog. I like spending time in my garden."
Include information about exciting events that will take place during the year. Start by focusing on some of the activities you have planned for the first few weeks of preschool and give information on upcoming special events, such as a field trip, class presentation or holiday party. For example, "When school starts, we will learn all about making new friends and you will get to tell us about your family. Later in the year we will go to the zoo, have a Christmas celebration and put on a play."
List any supplies you want students to have on the first day of class if you are not sending a separate letter to the parents. Provide specific details, such as "one package of eight crayons" or "one adult size T-shirt for our art center" and ask your students to help their parents find each item at home or at a store.
Provide information about the first day of school, including what time your students should arrive, be picked up and what will happen on the first day of class. For example, "On the first day of preschool, you can arrive between eight and nine o'clock and your parent can stay with you until we have snack. Then we will meet for circle time, go outside to play and do a fun activity before we finish our exciting day together. Your parent will come back at noon to pick you up."
Add any additional information, such as a date of a preschool open house, before closing your letter by signing your name.
