Preschool Theme & Activities for Being Kind to One Another

Young children often find it difficult to get along with others. Teach your students how to be kind to others with fun classroom activities. To enhance your students' learning, be a role model for your students. Show kindness when you interact with adults and students. Model sharing and helping others.
  1. Kind Words

    • Teach your students to be kind to others with their words. Begin with simple words that students can remember and use often, such as please, thank you, excuse me and bless you. Write the kind words on a poster and hang it in the classroom. Encourage students to use kind words when they talk to others. Recognize and reward students who use kind words.

    Group Play

    • Plan activities that require your students to work together to practice social skills such as sharing. Put students in pairs and ask them to work together on specific tasks, like building a block tower or washing and drying dishes in the dramatic play area. Encourage students to share materials and speak kindly to one another. Reward students who are kind to one another, and offer help to students who need it.

    Community Helper

    • Encourage your students to be kind to others by helping out in your community. Visit a hospital or nursing home and sing or put on a play. Make thank you cards to send to the local librarian, firemen, police officers, post office workers and other community helpers. Collect food or money for those in need in your community.

    Classroom Helper

    • Encourage students to help one another in the classroom. Create jobs for students to complete, such as checking the weather, collecting lunch tickets, holding the door or picking up trash after snack time. Rotate jobs so that each student has a chance to help. Take pictures of student helpers and display them on a classroom bulletin board.
