Print sorting mats containing colored fish from a template (see Resources). Laminate the sorting mats. Give the children colored goldfish crackers and instruct them to place the crackers on the corresponding colored fish pictures on the mats. Have them count how many crackers are on each colored fish and use a dry erase marker to write the number next to the fish.
Tape two pictures of small-size fish, two pictures of medium-size fish and two pictures of large-size fish in the bottom cups of muffin tins. Provide each child with the mini size, traditional size and larger size of goldfish crackers. Let the children sort the goldfish crackers by size in the corresponding muffin tin cup.
Tape the numbers 1 to 6 inside the bottoms of a muffin tin. Provide an assortment of colored or plain goldfish crackers. Ask the children to place the correct number of goldfish crackers into the "fish bowls."
Give each child two sheets of construction paper--one blue and one green. Explain that the blue paper represents the ocean and the green paper represents the forest. Provide a cup of assorted goldfish crackers and one of bear-shaped graham crackers. Ask the children to place the crackers on either the "ocean" or the "forest," according to where the creature lives.
