Free Online Math Activities for Preschoolers

Sometimes it is difficult to find online math activities that help engage preschool children -- especially activities that are free. Luckily there are some websites that provide online activities for free, with a good mix of colorful games containing unique characters that teach math facts and also entertain.
  1. SoftSchools

    • SoftSchools provides preschool-level math games that are free for teachers and parents. The games range from counting all the way to learning fractions and measurement. For example, one of the counting games asks kids to drop a certain number of vegetables into a basket, then click "submit" when they are done. If they are correct, a rabbit moves around the screen to collect its carrots. If they are incorrect, learners get a chance to try again. This particular game is not timed; however some of the games do have time limits if you would like a game with a bit more of a challenge.

    EZ School

    • EZ School offers a variety of games and activities, with colorful characters and sound effects to keep young learners engaged. The games feature a simple design which seems to have young learners in mind. For example, in "Count the Apples," learners are shown apples on a tree and must indicate how many they see by clicking on the cloud with the appropriate number. It is a simple approach, but one that appeals to both adults and learners.

    Primary Games

    • Primary Games also contains free activities and games for the young learner, which include sorting shapes and counting. The controls for a few of the activities are difficult for kids to do on their own, so it is a good idea for parents or teachers to sit with the child to make sure they get a handle on the activity. Some of the games, especially the ones that feature famous cartoon characters, require a download and only offer a free trial; however, there are plenty of other games that both parents and educators can utilize with their learners such as "Fishy Count," which asks the user to count the number of fish on the screen, then click on the seashell with the appropriate number.

    Sheppard Software

    • Sheppard Software provides free math games for various levels, including preschool-aged learners. All the games are bright and colorful and appeal to young learners. Several games also offer simple to advanced levels as well as levels with or without timers. Topics and games include "Picture Math", which asks students to count the number of shoes on certain bugs, and "Balloon Pop Math," which asks learners to pop the numbered balloons in order from smallest to greatest.
