The Selfgrowth website has an alphabet game to teach children through participation. The children are asked to cut out dinosaur footprints and place them on the floor. In the middle of the floor, the teacher acts as a volcano. Suddenly, the volcano erupts. The children must get to safety and the only way to do that is by stepping onto the footprints and follow the dinosaur's path away from the volcano.
The teacher holds up letters of the alphabet and when the children get the letter correct, they move on to the next print.
The first-school website has coloring pages available to download including a large selection of dinosaurs such as brachiosaurus, stegosaurus and tyrannosaurus. After coloring in their favorite dinosaurs, the teacher can then explain to the children which dinosaurs lived in which habitats and why scientists think all dinosaurs became extinct.
Designs for easy-to-make paper dinosaurs can be downloaded from rain.org website. Click on the image, and then click on "Save This Image." Once the shapes are cut out, the kids can use crayons, paint or pens to color in the dinosaur. A Spanish language version of this web page is also available.
A number of websites have easy-to-understand information on dinosaurs and their extinction. Easyweb has a "Dinosaurs for Kids" page that explains, along with pictures, the origin and extinction of dinosaurs. Through these visual aids, the teacher can explain the only records that exist about dinosaurs is in the petrified bones known as fossils.
