Setting Up a Language Arts Center for Pre-K

Pre-K is an age at which kids are extremely impressionable and receptive to learning new material. It is therefore very important to make sure that your children are exposed to proper language arts education to begin formulating and building their language skills during these essential, formative years. Making a language arts center an enjoyable and appealing part of pre-K is of utmost importance in starting kids off with a positive attitude toward school and learning.

Instructions

    • 1

Pick a corner or section of the pre-K center to turn into the language arts area. This area will need tables and chairs, as well as plenty of paper and writing utensils. Books should be easily and widely accessible. Put a couple of books out on a shelf to display and rotate the selection every couple of weeks. Remember to have a range books at various reading levels available. Especially at this age, kids progress at individual rates.

    • 2

Set up a variety of activities for kids to pick from. These activities should be short to complete so that the students do not lose interest or motivation. Include craft and coloring activities to keep young children interested.

    • 3

Have kids work in groups. This teaches children to work as part of a team and can also help children who are struggling with language arts concepts. Make sure to emphasize the alphabet. Engage kids in learning to sound out words in books and creating and inventing their own stories.
