How to Format an Elegant Letter

Many elegant letters are crafted on special stationary. This letter format uses traditional prose and style. Such a formal letter should be reserved for those closest to you, such as acquaintances, family members and lovers. Follow standard guidelines for formal letters when formatting an elegant letter. Also, this type of letter is best when handwritten. Elegant letters should show respect and affection towards the individual with whom you are corresponding.

      Purchase formal looking stationery with matching envelops. Choose a neutral color such as beige or white for the paper. Avoid bright graphics or colors for an elegant style letter.

      Write the return address in the corner of the right-hand side of the page. Skip two lines and write the date. Avoid abbreviations in an elegant letter.

      Format the recipient's address on the left hand side of the page below the date.

      Skip two lines and write an appropriate salutation. Consider greeting the recipient as "Sir or Madam." For a more personal greeting, consider "My Dearest" or "My Love."

Write an elegant expression of your love to a friend or a significant other. Don't be vague. The recipient should have a clear understand of the meaning of your letter.       Write the body of your letter. Include relevant information that expresses your personal sentiment towards the recipient. When thanking someone, tell them how their help benefited you. For example, write "I love you because of your thoughtfulness and kindness."
