How to Figure the Square Feet in a Circle

Square feet, also known as square footage, measure area, a two-dimensional property. Square footage is actually the product of two measurements in feet multiplied together. A circle, even though it is rounded, has linear measurements for its circumference, radius and diameter --- a circle's circumference is the total distance around the circle, its radius is the distance from the circle's center to the circumference, and its diameter is twice the length of the radius and represents the longest straight length inside the circle. You can figure out the square feet of a circle by finding its area with the following formula: area = radius squared * pi, where pi is a math constant with an approximate value of 3.142.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the length from the circle's circumference to its center to find the radius. For this example, let the radius be 4 feet.

    • 2

Multiply the measurement to itself to square the radius --- multiplying 4 feet by 4 feet results in 16 square feet.

    • 3

Multiply the squared radius by pi to figure the circle's area in square feet --- 16 square feet multiplied by pi equals approximately 50.265 square feet.
