The school is literally falling down, floor by floor, but the characters largely continue their daily routines with a surprising amount of calm and even humor. The final floor collapses, leaving only Mrs. Jewls and the basement. However, the implication is that they'll rebuild, or perhaps find a new way to continue their unusual school year. There is no grand battle or dramatic rescue. The story concludes with the implication that life, however strange, goes on.
