How to Write a Letter to Your Kindergarten Teacher

During the course of your child's education, there will probably be times when you will have to correspond with a teacher. Though electronic communication is popular, hand-written correspondence remains effective. In addition, writing a letter can give you insight into school policy if you do research to write a letter to a teacher or school administrator. Parents, school officials and students benefit from written correspondence.

      Write down ideas. Write down a list of key words, phrases or sentences to represent the central ideas you want to get across in your letter.

      Get a copy of school rules in cases where you want to cite a specific rule, or consult with a school official for information you need on a rule, policy or similar topic.

      Write the letter. Begin by putting the school's official address in the upper left-hand corner of the page. Address the teacher in a formal manner above the body of the letter and below the school's address. Compose the body of the letter using the points you listed in the preparation phase. Then make a copy of your letter before you mail it.

      Call or visit the school if you wanted a response to your letter but didn't get one. Be sure to take with you a copy of the your letter or a bullet list of concerns or questions for use during a discussion with the teacher.
