How old are kids when they finish school in Germany?

In Germany, the compulsory schooling period ends when students are 16 years old. However, most students continue their education afterwards, either in a vocational training program (Berufsausbildung) or attending a Gymnasium (grammar school) which leads to the Abitur (university entrance qualification) at age 18 or 19.
