How to Handle Problems With a Teacher

There may be a time when your child and teacher do not see eye to eye. Typically, the teacher is in the right and you will have to accept that your child will be punished for his misdeeds in the classroom. However, there may be times when you will have to deal with a problem teacher.

Instructions

    • 1

Talk to your child about the problem with the teacher. Ask for her account of the incident and a description of the way that the teacher handled the situation.

    • 2

Assess the situation. Based on your child's account, you can decide on the appropriateness of the teacher's behavior. If you feel that your child is being punished harshly or not getting treated fairly, you will want to make arrangements to visit the school.

    • 3

Set up a meeting with the teacher. Voice your concerns and find out her side of the story. Try to work together to see if you can find the root of the problem.

    • 4

Speak to the school's principal if you can not resolve things with the teacher. Explain the situation and see if the principal can offer an appropriate response to the teacher's behavior.

    • 5

Switch the child to a new class. If the situation does not become resolved and the problem persists, you request that your child be moved to a classroom with a new teacher.
