Set plans for Italian lessons. You might chose to work with children every day for one hour, or once a week for several hours. For best results, you will want to keep children exposed to Italian during most of the week to keep their memories fresh.
Teach children to count to 10 in Italian. Say each number in Italian and help children practice the proper pronunciation. Then write the word and have children practice spelling it correctly. Ask them to recite the numbers in order at the beginning of the next few lessons to make sure they remember. Consider making or buying a worksheet to help them remember how to write the numbers. Written and spoken language skills are both necessary for a grasp on a language.
When they are familiar with the first 10 numbers, teach them to count to 20.
Teach children common nouns, using objects in your home to make remembering easy. Try teaching names of fruits and vegetables. Say the word in Italian and help children practice the proper pronunciation. Then write the word and have the children practice spelling the word correctly. Give them workbook pages to help them remember their new words. Teach them a new set of objects, such as clothing, pets and furniture, every lesson.
Explain basic grammar rules. Start by teaching children to form sentences such as "Hello, my name is" and "Apples are red." Try following the lesson plans in a text ook if you are unfamiliar with teaching grammar techniques.
Expand further on vocabulary and grammar every lesson using the same techniques.
Help their children read easy books in Italian. Chose Italian children's books and allow students to attempt to read these books on their own at first.
Have the children watch Italian television and movies that are appropriate for their age levels. Put subtitles on in Italian so they can see and hear the words. You may also want to have the children watch movies in English with Italian subtitles to help them see translations.
Expose children to Italian culture. Take them to museums with Italian artwork, show them pictures of Italy or cook a delicious Italian meal together.
