Help your child create a system of organization. If your child is constantly forgetting where his homework is, the solution may be to simplify the organization method. Designate one folder for homework. When he completes his homework, he places it in the folder, places the folder in his backpack, and places the backpack by the door ready to return to school. For extra motivation, tape a sticker chart to the inside of the folder. Award a sticker every time he turns in his homework. Once your child receives 10 stickers, reward him with a special treat.
Help your child come up with a routine for turning in homework. For older students who have different teachers for each subject, developing a routine may be difficult if each teacher wants homework turned in a different way. This can be a problem for the student who is easily distracted. Ask your child's teachers if they will all accept homework at the beginning of each class period, even if this is not the teacher's normal routine.
Let your child suffer the consequences. Sometimes, no matter how parents try to motivate their child to turn in homework, the child simply refuses. Perhaps older children do not want to appear like they care about homework, or they are not turning it in as a passive-aggressive way to control what they do. Receiving an "incomplete" or a failing grade, or having privileges taken away may be the motivation needed for such students to turn in their homework.
