Say problem and steps to solving the math problem out loud. When teaching auditory learners, saying the problem and explaining each step of the equation orally can have an immense impact on their comprehension. Have the children repeat what they heard to make sure they understand what is being said. Explain the solution the same way. Allow the children to ask questions about every process as it comes up instead of waiting until you've explained them all.
Set up small discussion and study groups to help auditory learners get a firm grasp on the material. Have each auditory learner explain the math problems and their solutions to the other students in her group. By helping other students learn, the auditory learner will solidify her understanding of the material.
Tape lectures and discussions and provide a recording of the lecture or discussion so auditory learners can listen to the steps of the problem as they do their homework. Also provide material from another learning style, such as visual or tactile, so these students do not rely exclusively on one learning style.
Play music. Setting simple mathematical equations such as times tables and division to music can make it easier for students to remember simple formulas so they have more time to focus on more complex math problems. Setting general steps for complex problems to an easy-to-remember tune can help students solve equations effectively.
