Select the documents you wish to use to format your questions. These can be in the form of a textbook, article, or governmental document. The questions can be for quizzes, exams or simply a question and answer session after a lecture or other presentation.
Design your questions to test your class's ability to combine their understanding of the document with information they already possess and apply these facts to answer the questions.
Introduce different types of documents to students in classroom as well as homework activities; from magazines, journals and newspaper clippings to biographies and histories. Read the extracts from some of these to your students with a question and answer segment afterward.
Highlight important passages from the documents and make these materials available to students by making copies for them, or by posting them of a bulletin board in your classroom. Timetables, maps and other official documents need to be put into context that will make these materials interesting. For example, you might highlight documents like the Declaration of Independence, while reading a story about the American Revolution.
