How to Describe the Value of Teachers Being Bicultural or Multicultural

Being a multicultural or bicultural teacher has many advantages in classrooms. Students in classrooms are from a variety of cultures and ethnicity, and a teacher who has a background in these cultures will understand their social processes more. There is also a growing need for young people to understand the value of multiculturalism, and a teacher who is herself multicultural and multilingual can best teach them those values. To describe the value of such teachers, you must discuss the purpose, value, and trend of education.

Instructions

    • 1

Describe the reality of living in a multicultural, "global" world: a world that has become a mix of cultures and nationalities. Emphasize the need and necessity of understanding different cultures. Give examples of a classroom where there are students from a variety of cultures and backgrounds.

    • 2

Describe a teacher who is bicultural or multicultural, having a diverse family background or having been exposed to different cultures. She would be able to better understand the needs of multicultural children in the classroom, to cater to language requirements and to teach curriculum with sensitivity and awareness of cultural values.

    • 3

Emphasize your ideas with examples and references in a step by step, point-wise manner. The multicultural teacher will be able to relate to problems arising from cultural barriers or taboos better than a teacher who is not so exposed or experienced. Organize your description so you are able to prove how children today need to have a similar exposure so that they can become free-thinkers.
