How to Monitor the Submission of Lesson Plans

When monitoring the submission of lesson plans, it is necessary that all parts of an effective lesson plan be present. Effective lesson plans contain key components that ensure the lesson is useful, valid and can measure student progress. Lesson plans that are submitted without adequate information should be returned for revisions.

Instructions

    • 1

Look for an objective to begin the lesson plan. The learning objective must contain action terms that are observable and measurable. An objective needs to be short and describe exactly what the students will be doing or learning in the activity.

    • 2

Check that there is a list of materials for the lesson that matches the steps in the procedure.

    • 3

Look for simple, easy-to-understand steps that describe the procedure or directions the students will follow to complete the lesson. Some lesson plans come with extra activities that are more filler and not directly related to the activity. These need to be removed from the lesson plan or added as enrichment.

    • 4

Check that there is an assessment for the lesson. This can be anything from a checklist the students fill out as they work or an actual quiz given at the end. It needs to be measurable so the students can be given a score or a grade.

    • 5

Complete the monitoring process by looking to see if there are enrichment activities included at the end of the lesson. These are activities the students can do at home for extra credit to increase their knowledge base on the subject.

    • 6

Return the lesson to the teacher if these parts are not included or are unclear. Request revisions before accepting the lesson submission.
