How to Make a Pentagon With Geoblocks

Geoblocks are wooden blocks used at home or in the classroom to teach children about geometric shapes. Each block kit contains 26 shapes including cubes, rectangular prisms and triangular prisms. Children can combine the shapes to make other polygons such as pentagons, which have five sides. After manipulating the blocks, children may find several ways to make pentagons using Geoblocks.

Instructions

    • 1

Place an equilateral or isosceles triangle block so its base lies on an equally long, equally high square or rectangle block. This is the most basic way to make a pentagon.

    • 2

Place the long sides of two identical triangles together to make a rectangle or square. Place the base of an equilateral or isosceles triangle on an equally long, equally high side of this rectangle or square to make a pentagon.

    • 3

Place together multiple rectangles, squares or triangles to make a larger square or rectangle. Place the base of an equilateral or isosceles triangle on an equally long, equally high side of this rectangle or square to make a pentagon.

    • 4

Place isosceles triangles together so that their sides touch with their top angles touching in the center. The center angles must add up to 360 degrees for this to work, and the interior sides must be equally long. This will make the classic, radial pentagon shape as opposed to the house-like pentagon shape made using the first three methods.
