For holiday concerts, have your students make Capri Sun jingle bell instruments. Cut a hole in the bottom of the container and drop several jingle bells into the container. Slide one craft stick into the opening that you made, allowing the stick to protrude out of the bottom as a handle. Then tape up the opening with clear tape, securing the tape around the handle to hold it in place. You can have your students decorate the outside of the boxes with paint or construction paper, as desired.
Follow the same concept of making jingle bell instruments, but use dried beans for the inside of the juice box instead to make maracas for a Cinco de Mayo celebration. Cut an opening in the bottom of the box and insert about 1/2 cup of dried beans or dried peas into the container. Add a stick to the bottom of the box, allowing it to stick out of the bottom as a handle. Tape the opening shut, then allow your students to paint their maracas using vivid colors.
Tambourines provide the opportunity for students to dance and play instruments all in an afternoon. Make the instruments by stuffing the Capri Sun boxes with shredded newspaper and taping the container closed. All around the edges of the container, use craft glue to attach small tambourine cymbals. These are available at craft stores. Once the glue is dry, have the students decorate their tambourines. Then divide the class in half, with half of the students playing their tambourines to a rhythm of your choosing and the other half of the class moving in a circle to the beat.
For a Capri Sun juice box guitar, use the box that the drinks come in and divide the students in groups to have their own band performances for one another. Cut a round hole in the center of one side of the box. Place a long, flat stick in one end of the box and allow it to protrude slightly from the other end. Close the flaps of the box ends, cutting them around the ends of the stick as needed. Cut four extra-long rubber bands in half. Then secure one end of each rubber band to the neck of the guitar with duct tape. Pull the other ends of the rubber bands to the short end of the stick, extending them evenly over the front of the guitar, and tape them to that end with duct tape. Decorate the guitars as desired.
