Great Ideas for a High School Musical Pep Rally

A high school pep rally is a large, school-wide event where all students gather in an auditorium, or other school location, and celebrate their school. It is also an opportunity for you to have a little fun with your students by teaching them a new dance, introduce them to a new school song, start some new traditions, or host a themed rally.
  1. Teach a Dance

    • You can have fun with a new song by teaching your whole school how to dance to it at your next pep rally. Design a dance to a popular song. Make it something that students can do in the stands while they watch the pep rally. Teach the song to your school band and your school choir group. At your pep rally, have a few students demonstrate the dance and teach it to your entire school. Then instruct your band and choir group to sing it while your students perform the dance.

    Teach a New Song

    • You can get your school involved by teaching them your new school song. Use a modern beat and language that is familiar to your students. Include specifics about your school, such as your mascot, school motto and anything interesting about your school or your city. Make it a fun song, but also make sure that it has a meaning message. For instance, messages like "we're stronger together" or "prepare for success" are positive messages with a unifying theme. Teach your new school song to your students at your pep rally, and then sing it together for the first time.

    Start a New Tradition

    • Pep rallies are an ideal place to start new traditions. Although you can use them to sing your school song, you can also start a few other musical traditions, such as a certain song that you sing, together as a school, after every sports victory, another song that you sing at the start of each new semester, or another that you sing at the first and last pep rally of the year. Singing these songs is an entertaining musical activity for your pep rally, and gives your students something to remember.

    Themed Pep Rally

    • Themes offer a range of musical opportunities for your next pep rally. Consider any upcoming holidays, such as Halloween, Christmas break or Valentine's day. Encourage your students to dress up for the event and select a number of songs that fit the theme. Pass out copies of the songs to each student and lead your students as they sing each song. Have your band or school choir join in and support the musical event.
