The most basic appreciation banner expresses your school's thanks and appreciation for your counselors. Hang a banner for each counselor with their names, such as, "Thank you, Mr. Smith" and "Thank you, Ms. Jones." Or hang a different banner from each part of the school, including the students, the teachers, the administration, parents organization and school board, each saying that group appreciates the school's counselors.
Give counselor appreciation an individual touch by hanging banners customized for each counselor. Include their own school pictures, college mascot, and pictures of their hobbies and interests on each banner. When creating the banners, hold a school-wide contest to determine which students know their counselors the best by awarding the student who can match the most items to the correct counselor's banners. This is a great way to help the student body get to know their counselors better.
Thank-you banners or banners of appreciation signed by members of the student body are not only a way to appreciate your school counselors, they can be saved as souvenirs. Encourage students, faculty and other staff to include their favorite memory or story of how the counselor helped them. These banners can be hung at a low height next to a bin of markers for students to add their thoughts and autographs throughout the week leading up to the day.
School counselors help mold the ethical culture of the school through modeling values for living and helping students understand their own values and moral beliefs. Show your school's appreciation for their work through choosing a specific value for each counselor and creating a banner that states why your school feels that counselor models that value. If possible, pick values from your school's mission statement and include pictures or anecdotes relating to how the counselor embodies that value. Showing what your counselors do that impact the students' lives is a meaningful reminder of their contribution to the school and community.
