Cutting and Pasting Activities for Kids

Cut and paste projects for kids encourage creativity along with improving hand-eye coordination. Cut and paste projects work best for younger children in preschool, kindergarten and first grade. Feature cut and paste activities with specific themes at different times throughout the year. For instance, you may want to host alphabet projects at the beginning of the year and then feature flower and bird cut and paste activities in the spring.
  1. Nature Crafts

    • Encourage students to make cut and paste nature crafts in celebration of fall or spring. Give the children poster board paper or card stock and help them make flower and leaf shapes using stencils. The stencils will help them get a good, clear outline. Once the shape is drawn, you can help them cut the leaves and flowers out. Show them how to draw a tree on poster board and then help them adorn their trees with the leaves and flowers they cut out. The children may also want to make birds, apples and other items to paste on the trees. Teachers can print out pictures of animals and then help kids cut these out to include on a collage.

    Shapes and Letters

    • Teach kids about shapes and letters by giving them letters, squares, circles, diamonds and other designs to cut out. You can print these out online or draw the objects and make copies. Once the children cut out the letters and shapes, help them paste the letters on a piece of card stock and paste the shapes an another piece. Some small children may need help identifying certain shapes and writing the name of the shape underneath the pasted object. The kids can also color these shapes and draw other designs on the poster board page.

    Cards

    • Show your students how to make pasted objects on cards to give away for birthdays, holidays or other events. The kids can cut out little pink, white and red hearts to paste on white or pink cardstock, or feature cut out flowers and trees on the cover of the card. You can also encourage the children to glue other embellishments on the card such as fake pearls, pressed flowers and glitter.

    Landscape Collages

    • Teach the kids about exotic animals and distant lands such as Africa, China and other locations with landscape collages. Find landscape pictures online and print out scenes of the Savannah, swamp lands or other landscape scenes. The kids can then glue the landscape page on top of poster board paper. Give them pictures of giraffes, zebras, lions and other animals to cut out and glue onto the landscape scene. Feature landscapes and animals from all over the world.
