Get your kids to spin and jump while dancing to aerobic music. Play a CD with current music that gets the kids moving. Encourage them to dance and just have a good time. Then stop the music and say "spin" or "jump" to get the kids to perform other steps. This activity can really get their blood pumping and encourage creative dances.
Have fun with your kids spinning on traditional swings and tire swings at the park. Parents can easily spin tire swings in circles while their children sit on the tire. Spin around circles and sing songs. You can also lightly spin kids on regular swings by placing the child in the swing and then moving the swing in a circle to allow the ropes to twine together. Let the swing go and watch your children spin in circles. The playground might also have spinning saucers and other equipment that allows you to spin the kids around.
A trampoline can help facilitate more exercise in your children's lives. Invest in a large trampoline with a net or sign your kids up for gymnastics. Gyms often have large trampolines for kids to practice jumping and tumbling. However, if you do buy a trampoline, always supervise your children and consider buying one with a net around it for added safety. Kids can spin and do all sorts of moves on the trampoline. Mini re-bounders don't cost as much as a large trampoline, but only one kid can use it as at time. The kids can take turns spinning and jumping, but there isn't much room for tumbling.
The Family Education website recommends encouraging kids to participate in action jumping. This involves using a jumping rope and reciting rhymes while trying to act out the actions in the rhymes in between jumps. Kids can jump with the rope and then do the splits, kick or turn around while singing the rhyme. A rhyme might include a saying such as salute the captain or bow to the queen. The kids jump with the rope and then stop to perform the action in the song such as bowing or saluting.
