How to Create Graphic Organizers Using a Venn Diagram

Graphic organizers are diagrams that come in various styles and are used for the purpose of organizing and clarifying information. Graphic organizers, such as Venn diagrams, are frequently used as aids during the pre-writing process. Venn diagrams employ the use of multiple overlapping circles to show the characteristics of multiple subjects, as well as shared characteristics between the subjects. You can easily create a Venn diagram to assist you in planning what you will write or in studying subject material for a quiz, test or exam.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw two circles side by side. Allow the inside edge of each circle to overlap the other.

    • 2

Label each circle with a subject. For example, you could label one circle "coffee" and the other "soda."

    • 3

Write one or more facts that are unique to each subject within that subject's circle. Do not write these facts in the overlapping area between the circles. For instance, you might write "often served hot" in the coffee circle and "usually served cold" in the soda circle.

    • 4

Write facts that both subjects share in the overlapping area of the circles. In this example, you might write "beverages" in the overlapping area.
